This week I started a new project. The brief is to concept, model and texture a shop front I have also decided to do the stretch goal and one of them was to design the entire building from the pavement to the rooftop.
So I started with creating mood boards using Pinterest I have gathered images with interesting compositions and designs that also depicts interesting silhouettes as this is how I will approach the concept stage.

The reason why I decided to start with silhouettes is because it's a good way for me to get some ideas on paper and it prevents me from getting caught up with any details. Also, it allows me to work with the overall shape of the building to develop an interesting design.

I have created 14 different designs and have then moved on to developing my chosen silhouette. At this point, I was thinking about what kind of materials is this shop made out of, what kind of objects does it have and what kind of atmosphere I would like to create.

Primarily I wanted to create a book shop but I thought that it's too plain. I knew I wanted to create a busy, slightly spooky and characteristic scenery so I thought of an antique shop and I began with gathering more images. When I stumbled upon masks I immediately thought of a small, tall, crooked little shop. The idea started to become clearer and at this point, I knew what I want to achieve. I began sketching some more details on top of the silhouettes. It was important to me to keep the shape of the silhouette so I draw over the top.

The last part was colour experimentation I found this quite difficult I had a good idea in my head, but I just couldn't get the colours to fit with what the design.
I knew I wanted to use purple as my accent color and from there I used my mood board and I came up with some designs.

Lastly I drew a fully finished design to help me model the concept.
